CadnaR handling and modelling

CadnaR allows the user to easily build models thanks to its sophisticated input possibilities. The approach of having one interface for the whole program, without any modular separation, will allow CadnaR beginners to get started quickly, while more complex projects are handled efficiently by applying modern project organization techniques and assessment tools.

Import formats

CadnaR includes a selection from the most commonly used import formats:

  • Google SketchUp (*.skp)
  • AutoCAD* (*.dwg, *dxf)
  • pCon Planner** (*.dwg)

It also supports ASCII files for both object geometries and database records and CLF-import (*.CF1 & .*CF2) for the directivity import. Additionally, CadnaR offers an ODBC connection* to any kind of database and direct Excel import (*.xlsx). This means full flexibility when massive amounts of data need to be included in the project!

Easy modeling with CadnaR

CadnaR is the easiest software available on the market to model with. Quite often it is indeed easier to start modeling a room from scratch rather than importing data from a third-party software. Thanks to its straightforward handling concept modeling tasks are effortless.

Within the CadnaR main window you have all available tools which are needed to model and edit any kind of room, easily and clearly arranged:

  • Bitmap layout images* can be used to model directly all objects within a room or indoor space.
  • Any Obstacles like inner walls, machines, desks and furniture can be modeled in CadnaR with ease. In simple cases the geometry of the obstacle is modeled using screens and box-shaped obstacles and then the acoustic properties regarding absorption, scattering and transmission are applied. Of course CadnaR allows also the modeling of more complex geometries with the so called polymesh object.
  • Sound sources can be modeled as point, line, area or box type sources.

A combination of several obstacles and sources allows to model any construction you may think of. This is the point where the advanced concept for the project organization kicks in. This concept allows to create groups of objects which speeds up modeling drastically.

Project Organization: The ObjectTree*

CadnaR has the same sophisticated concept for organizing projects as CadnaA. All objects can be assigned hierarchically to a structure of folders called ObjectTree*. The folders can be then organized into groups and finally, groups are assigned to different variants or planning scenarios. Based on this organizational scheme, it is possible to compare the acoustic effect of different layouts and different acoustic measures in a very fast and convenient way within the same project file.

Modelling of special geometries

Many real geometries can be approximated sufficiently in the acoustic simulation by using or combining box-type obstacles and screens. However, in some cases it is essential that more complex geometries are also represented in the acoustic model. In CadnaR the polymesh object can be used to create complex surfaces. This allows for example to model any oblique surfaces, arcs, semispherical areas of the ceiling or zigzag shaped parts of the roof.

Material properties: absorption and scattering

CadnaR comes with a broad set of absorption data for different materials. Included are the vendor-neutral absorption coefficients as well as a product database of selected manufacturers. The product database includes the data from the originating measurements in the reverberation chamber which then can be applied directly (for example for flat absorbers) or indirectly (in case of free hanging objects or baffles) to the objects you use in your acoustic model in CadnaR.

Scattering data for specific products is rarely available. However, CadnaR allows you to conveniently account for surface roughness and details which are not included in the model and gives best practice approaches on how to handle scattering in all relevant real-life scenarios.
