Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here you will find the answers to frequently asked questions about software installation, operating systems, dongle issues and hardware requirements. For further technical questions please contact your
local distributor or hotline(at)datakustik.com.
Installation/Operating Systems
-
Which operating systems are suitable for CadnaA?
-
CadnaA 32bit version 4.0 runs on all modern 32 bit operating systems of Microsoft Windows, that is Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows7. -
Can CadnaA be installed on 64bit operating systems?
-
CadnaA 64bit version 4.0 runs on 64 bit operating systems, that is Windows XP x64 edition, Windows Vista 64bit and Windows7 64bit.In addition, CadnaA 32bit software can be installed on 64 bit operating systems as well, of course the restrictions apply to 32 bit applications furthermore.
-
Where are the initialization files (e.g. CADNAA.INI) located under Windows7 and Windows Vista?
-
With Windwos Vista and Windows7 the INI-files are not saved in the standard directory “C:\Windows\". Instead they are located in the folder “C:\Users\Username\AppData\local\VirtualStore/Windows”.

Dongle (HASP)
-
What it necessary for the dongle installation?
-
- Current dongle driver from the installation CD.
- Sufficient administration rights for the installation.
-
How can it be verified whether the installation of the Dongle driver was successful?
-
Please check in the start menu of your system under “all programs - Datakustik – CadnaA” whether the “HASP Admin Control Center” is available and can be started.
If CadnaA was not installed yet or shall not be installed (e.g. on a server), you can start the “HASP Admin Control Center” by “http:localhost//:1947” in the Web browser as well. -
When starting CadnaA software the following message appears: "HASP SRM Protection system: Waiting until HASP is available". What does this mean?
-
The HASP-dongle cannot be found.
Possible reasons:- dongle is not plugged into the USB port
- USB port is broken
- No network connection to the server
- The dongle driver is not installed correctly:
I.) Please deactivate the virus scanner and install the driver once more.
II.) If this doesn´t help, please deinstall the old driver manually (control panel – software) and install the Dongle driver from the installation CD once more.
III.) If the previous steps are not successful, please start the installation via command line (cmd). The required batch files are available under download.datakustik.de/download/HASP_CMD.zip.
Please follow the steps below:
1) Unzip the file and save the files on the hard disk.
2 ) Remove all Dongles from the PC.
3) Start the batch file "UNINSTALL.BAT" with double-click.
4 ) Restart of the PC.
5) Start the batch file "INSTALL.BAT" with doubleclick.
6 ) Insert the Dongle into the USB port again. -
CadnaA can be started. After some time the following message appears: "HASP SRM Protection system: Waiting until HASP is available". What is the reason for the interruption?
-
The "USB-Root HUB" is turned off after some time to save energy. Please check the power settings of all available "USB-Root HUBs” (device manager -USBController) with regard to this attribute. There are problems to recognize HASP dongles at the USB port in connection with the chip set "NVIDIA nForce4". Workaround: Use an external USB hub between dongle and USB port of the PC.
-
Which steps are required for a dongle update?
-
After you have received the mail with the activation code (.v2c) from your distributor or from Datakustik, please follow the instructions given below:1) Save the .v2c file.
2) Quit all CadnaA processes on your PC.
3) Ensure that the CadnaA-dongle to be recoded is attached to your PC.
4) Open the HASP Admin Control Center on Start Menu -> Program Files -> DataKustik -> CadnaA
5) The HASP Admin Control Center is displayed in your web-browser.
6) Click in the menu “Administration Options” (on the left) the item “Update/Attach”.
7) Select the .v2c file by using the button “Search”.
8) When the file has been selected click on button “Apply File” in order to start the coding procedure.
-
When attempting to apply a .v2c file to the hasp dongle via HASP Admin Control Center you get the message HASP_UPDATE_TOO_OLD (54).
-
The activation code (.v2c) has already been input. The update of the dongles must be carried out only once. -
When attempting to apply a .v2c file to the hasp dongle via HASP Admin Control Center you get the message HASP_UPDATE_TOO_NEW (55). What does it mean?
-
An earlier update was not accomplished. Please activate the previous .v2c file via HASP Admin Control Center before you can update the license file received last. -
When starting CadnaA you get the message “Cannot find hardlock (41) Please check correct installation.” What does it mean?
-
With the update to CadnaA version 4.0 you have received a new time limited dongle (Serial-No. Lxxxx/Sxxxx).
The message denotes that the license has expired. You must re-activate the dongle by an unlimited .v2c file). You will receive this license file once we have received the old HASP (3.x) dongle from your distributor or from yourself. -
When starting CadnaA you get the message “Cannot find hardlock (64000) Please check correct installation.” What does it mean?
-
You have tried to start a CadnaA 64 bit application on a 64 bits operating system although your dongle does not include a 64bit option. If you want to operate CadnaA on the 64 bit operating system anyway, please install CadnaA 32 bit application.
If you want to purchase the 64bit option instead please contact your local distributor.
Hardware Requirements
-
How much RAM does CadnaA need?
-
It depends on the size of your projects. CadnaA already runs on computers with 512 MB RAM; however, bigger calculations are not feasible on such systems because Windows tries to compensate the lack of memory with the aid of the swap file which is extremely slow in comparison to real RAM.At least 1024 MB RAM are recommended for medium sized projects. For larger projects 2048 MB RAM may be appropriate.
For more information please read the
technical note!
-
Which advantage does a 64 bit system offer?
-
CadnaA 64-bit is not subject of restrictions of 32bit operating systems due to a maximum usable amount of memory of 2 GB because native 64-bit applications are able to allocate more memory in a 64-bit Windows operating system than the currently maximum amount of installable memory in a workstation. For instance on a computer with 32 GB RAM CadnaA 64-bit can utilize the whole amount of free memory which is usually over 30 GB.For more information please read the
technical note! -
Which graphics cards are suitable for CadnaA?
-
If larger 3D models shall be displayed or even animated, the use of a fast OpenGL graphics card with at least 256 MB RAM is advisable. Particularly current products with graphics chips from nVIDIA or ATI capable of 3D gaming are recommended, since 3D games also require high performance geometry acceleration and fast texture mapping. For more information please read the
technical note! -
Which processors are suitable for CadnaA?
-
For desktop computers we recommend to use quad core processors from Intel (Core i7, Core i5 or Core 2 Quad) or AMD (Phenom II X4, Phenom X4 or Athlon II X4) with very high real clock speed because they are particularly suitable for calculations with CadnaA due to their architecture. For laptops we also recommend fast dual core processors like Intel Core 2 Duo since there are only a few laptop models with quad core processors so far.
Rule of thumb:
· the more (real) CPU cores, the better
· higher clock rate is better
· newer CPU architecture is better
For more information please read the
technical note! -
What must be considered if I have to decide between multiple cores or higher clock speed?
-
Generally a higher CPU clock speed will almost linearly accelerate the pure calculations with CadnaA. Thus a CPU with a clock speed twice as high would execute a calculation in about half the time if no other factors are important. When using multi core processors acceleration is achieved by parallelization. A few things have to be considered here:
- some calculations and operations cannot be parrallelized
- even parallelizable calculations cannot be reasonably segmented on an arbitrary amount of cores
- the parallelization of a calculation implies an additional overhead for the distribution of the job parts and the consolidation of the results
- the higher the amount of cores simultaneously working on a calculation, the more “friction losses” will occur
