Fields of Application

Auralization in building acoustics provides a means for acoustic consultants, building engineers, or architects to get an impression of the impact of different measures in building construction on the resulting sound field in the receiving room. For producers of sound insulating products or components this tool allows to demonstrate the acoustical performance of products to customers based on the hearing impression - besides the common single number ratings as e.g. the weighted sound reduction index.

Furthermore, BASTIAN auralization can be applied for scientific test with hearing tests where it reduces costs for otherwise expensive set-up and measurement devices. A considerable advantage of this method is that hearing test can be arranged rather quick and with minimum technical effort.

In particular, BASTIAN auralization enables an A-B-comparison of two situations with the same sound source and type of receiving room selected. During replay of the sound files it can be switched between two situations A and B back and forth.

Examples for fields of application of BASTIAN auralization:

  • Listening to voice and musical instruments with separating walls in office and dwellings
  • Comparison of acoustic minimum requirements
  • Influence of flanking transmission on the resulting performance
  • Influence of reverberation time in the receiving room
  • Performance of exterior walls with thermal insulating compound systems
  • Performance of exterior walls in conjunction with windows
  • Influence of sealing at lightweight double-walls
